We are grateful to not just have family up north, but also down south in Florida where I am from. We will not be making the pilgrimage to the weirdest state in the Union this winter, but we have in the past, and there are some great reciprocity sites for your Life & Science Membership there as well.
Today we’re highlighting 2 spots: The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, and Mote Marine Aquarium. These spots are so special to me because, like the Liberty Science Center for my husband, these are the places I grew up going to with my parents and on field trips.
It’s hard for me to pick the best part of the Bishop (first 6 photos), but I would say it’s a tie between their adorable manatees and the planetarium (which is included in admission, no extra ticket needed). They also have great exhibits about the natural history of Florida and other Florida history. Lastly, a newer addition to the museum is a tree house room for kids with lots of neat activities.
Admission to this museum is normally $25 for adults and $16 for kids 5-17, so for 2 adults and 2 kids, this is an $82 savings.
The museum as also right on the water with a riverwalk nearby, so you could continue your adventure there when done with the museum.
Free parking for up to 3 hours is available in front of the museum.
For Mote Marine in Sarasota, FL, admission is half-price via reciprocity and we’d recommend going first thing when they open to get your discounted tickets at the booth because this spot is popular.
A favorite for us here is the touchie feelie tanks where you can touch various aquatic creatures like starfish and even rays. The aquarium also has some amazing sharks and manatees.
While at Mote, also walk to the Save Our Seabirds Sanctuary, which is free and right next door, to see some amazing rescued birds.
There are also beach and fishing options nearby Mote, along with a cute shopping area called St. Armand’s Circle. It is easy to make it a whole-day affair.
Last call: let us know your reciprocity gems in the comments!
