The Summer Shade Tour continues, and today, we’re highlighting this Durham shady gem: Rockwood Park.
As with so many parks for us, we found this park while driving aimlessly, seeing what there was to see. 😂 (We seriously have no trade secret for discovering parks. So frequently it is by accident. 🤪)
A few details:
• This is a small park nestled in a neighborhood, so there is not much parking.
• Mostly mulch playground area, but there is a paved path to get to the play structures, so we’d say stroller friendly.
• While the mulch isn’t accessible, there are some accessible features like an accessible seesaw and swings.
• Tree coverage that will likely provide shade during the earlier and later hours of the day.
• The flower structures are musical!
• Picnic area and small fields to run.
• Paved walkway access (see the cute bridge in second-to-last photo).
• There is a small bathroom building, which you can see in the last photo. It was locked when we visited in late March, but it had signs saying it would be opened in March. Hoping it is open now.
We love small, cozy parks like this, and will definitely stop by it again when we’re in the area.
