We have one more post for you before we cruise into this long Labor Day Weekend. You may be aware that Wake County Parks frequently host free events that engage kids and get them out in nature. But did you know that multiple parks have similar free resources that are available every day of the week? This post is about just one of those resources: Adventure Backpacks at Lake Crabtree County Park.
To find these, pull into the park office (a left off the main road after the maintenance road) and look for the sign to the left of the office you see here in photo 2. Just a short walk through the garden, you will see a large trunk/bin on the side of the building by the red door (see photo 3). In here, you can find backpacks - that look brand-spankin’ new, by the way - with different nature topics and activities for you to do throughout the park. Go on a scavenger hunt. Participate in a citizen science project. Discover ladybugs. Please make sure to use the clipboard to sign out your bag, and take very good care of it so others after you can enjoy this free activity.
If you’ve already done Crabtree’s backpacks, or are looking for a park closer to you, Historic Oak View in Raleigh also has Adventure Backpacks in the park office. At Crowder County Park in Apex, similar activities can be found in the Discovery Box by the park office.
Have you been to these parks and done one of the Adventure Backpacks or Discovery Boxes? Let us know in the comments!
