A love letter to Downtown Cary Park on this day, your ribbon-cutting ceremony:
I still remember the day they closed you off with promises that something bigger was coming. Something better.
I remember an event where we put rubber duckies in the giant fountain to say farewell for now because we wouldn’t be able to sit on it, touch it, or even see its beautiful cascading waters while construction was ongoing.
It’s been a long few years without you, Downtown Cary Park. Peeking through the fence to see what was going on. Getting a bird’s eye view from the upstairs windows of Cary Regional Library. Marveling when our big birds landed and wondering when we’d finally get to play with them. Imagining what wonders the expanded and reimagined park would bring.
And then a few months ago, I was invited in for a preview. Three things were clear that day: hard work had been put in, hard work was still ahead, and something special was brewing.
It’s been over 2 years since we said goodbye, and after being reunited and reintroduced this past Friday, I’m so happy to say you are more beautiful and amazing than we could have ever imagined.
I am grateful to every single person at every level who put their vision, dedication, and hard work toward this park being brought from a storyboard into a physical reality. This will undoubtedly be the crown jewel of Town of Cary’s park system.
Our family is looking forward to years of making happy memories here!
